Aligning organizational strategy and culture is a mix of puzzles and mysteries. Some parts are puzzles to be solved (how many widgets to produce), while others are mysteries to be managed (how to respond if a competitor drops their price). The unifying factor in all strategy is people, which can be the greatest mystery of all.

There are many books and resources available on corporate strategy, but what about organizational culture? More facts cannot help you solve for “people”. For that, you need insight, not data.

“Aligning Culture & Strategy” is a one-day professional workshop designed to help you gain a deeper understanding of the organizational mystery that is your people. As a leader, one of your tasks is to manage your employees’ fears, hopes, excitements and dreams in order to create a culture that helps the strategy succeed.

After finishing this short case and discussion-based program, you will:

  • Learn how human aspects, such as motivation and the nature of work, can affect strategy

Program Faculty

Dr. Matthew Semadeni

Dr. Matthew Semadeni is a Professor of Strategy at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. His research, teaching and consulting have focused on competitive strategy, innovation and top management/corporate boards of directors. As an instructor, his focus is on innovation and providing executives the tools and structure to take a practical approach when making strategic business decisions. Matthew’s market sector focuses include management consulting, life sciences, information technology and services, and government administration. He has extensive executive education instruction experience; he has worked with a wide variety of companies including Cummins, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, The Mayo Clinic, General Motors and Ingersoll-Rand.
