Come take an introduction to SPSS.

Dr. Patrick Lynch will be helping students understand how to use SPSS as an amazing statistics tool. This workshop is required for students planning to take the Basic Statistics workshop on October 10th.

Getting SPSS

We will use SPSS, a statistical software, for all analyses in this class. All ASU students have access to SPSS. Follow these steps to download SPSS using a web browser connected to the Internet:

  1. Login to My ASULinks to an external site.
  2. On the left, look for an icon labeled "My Apps" and click on it
  3. In the Keyword text box, enter "SPSS"
  4. Select the version of SPSS that is appropriate for your computer and its operating system
    • + SPSS 25 is used in the illustrations for this course and it is available for Windows (Win32 & Win64), Mac and Linux (SPSS 26 is equivalent; choose either version)
    • + Choose to DOWNLOAD the Home Usage version to your machine and install it
    • + IMPORTANT: There are at least two files contained in the DOWNLOAD: (1) The SPSS Installation Program and (2) SPSS Home Usage Licenses.PDF
    • It is critical for you to follow the installation instructions in the PDF file.

In some cases, you may need to be connected to ASU using a VPN connection to ensure the software will download as well as run on your computer. 

Follow these steps to get the ASU VPN to run on your computer:Links to an external site.

  1. Login to My ASULinks to an external site.
  2. On the left, look for an icon labeled "My Apps" and click on it
  3. In the Keyword text box, enter "VPN"
  4. Select the version of Cisco SSL that is appropriate for your computer and its operating system

+ You may need to have the Cisco software running each time you connect to ASU for running SPPS as well as other services. This will vary depending on where you are connecting from.
