Consulting Academy Gives T-birds an Edge

Thunderbird Consulting Academy ProgramThe Thunderbird Career Management Center (CMC) has created a 10-week “Consulting Academy Program” with the aim of preparing high-achieving students for careers in the field of consulting. The inaugural program will be open to incoming students starting in the Fall of 2017. Preparing for a career in consulting is a long and intensive process so the Academy will begin working with students immediately following the start of their degree programs.

We seek to recruit top students who are committed to pursuing careers in consulting; this will be a high-touch program with a competitive application process including an essay and in-person powerpoint presentation. The inaugural cohort will consist of 5 students, each of whom will be paired with a T-bird alumni coach. The coaches - all of whom work in consulting - will be volunteering their time to orient students to the consulting industry and coach students in areas such as resume building, case interviewing, storytelling (i.e., presentation development) and data analytics. The CMC will provide students and coaches with a detailed weekly schedule outlining topics/milestones and coaches will be instructed to share consulting-specific knowledge and insights with their students throughout the duration of the program. We will also invite guest speakers to give content-specific presentations either on campus or virtually. As part of the program, students will be encouraged to hone their skills (i.e., case interviewing) by practicing and critiquing with their cohort peers, and to practice and request feedback from their individual coaches.  

The CMC will manage the program and make sure that relationships between coaches and students are productive and fruitful. If you are interested in getting involved either as an alumni coach or consulting coach for a specific topic, email employer.relations@thunderbird.edu.
