Thunderbird alumni Howard Strong ’80 and Jon Kailey ’76 are teaming up again for an up-to-the-minute keynote on “Corruption or Compliance” and the ethical crossroads between the two – particularly in the realm of international business.
Strong and Kailey will discuss FCPA (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act) requirements and which companies fall under its jurisdiction, while sharing their thoughts on events involving corruption in Brazil, the U.S. and around the world. Prior to the event, attendees will be provided background articles on the Walmart corruption case in Mexico and details on Odebrecht, the Brazil construction company that paid out over $800 million in bribes to win construction contracts throughout Latin America. In addition, there will be an update on Volkswagen’s Dieselgate scandal where there may be fines over $25 billion and incarceration of guilty employees.
Howard Strong is a former International Compliance Officer for National Oilwell/Varco, where he worked for 28 years. He also has a degree in Chemistry from the Naval Nuclear Power School, Naval Intelligence School and a Master’s from Thunderbird.
T-bird alum Jon Kailey is former Director of International Business Development at Owens Corning. In his 34 years at Owens Corning, he had the great privilege of being the first employee to work on all seven continents, having traveled to over 70 countries. He spent 20 years living outside the U.S. in countries like Saudi Arabia, Chile, Mexico and Brazil.
Join us for a reception at the on-campus Thunderbird pub directly after the keynote.
Note: This event also will be live-streamed. RSVP to receive the link to watch online!
