Graduation Video Instructions 2020

Thunderbird and Arizona State University will be celebrating with graduates in a virtual, online 2020 Spring Commencement ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the vital public health recommendations that come with it. Thunderbird’s virtual commencement ceremony will take place on May 11, and will be available to watch on YouTube beginning at 9 AM, Arizona time (12 PM Eastern Standard Time).

Thunderbird has a long and rich history that has been reflected in our graduation ceremonies for decades. This year will be no exception. We are asking our graduates to submit videos for the Flag Ceremony, Oath of Honor, and Year in Review for our virtual ceremony. Below, we have provided basic content guidelines and simple instructions for uploading videos via CampusReel.

The last day to upload videos to CampusReel is Sunday, April 26, 2020. We will make every effort to include all submissions that meet video and sound quality standards.

You also have the option to virtually sign the Oath of Honor and to upload your favorite headshot for use in the ceremony.

Flag Ceremony

Flag Ceremony

Help us keep this long-standing Thunderbird tradition alive by contributing a video for our virtual flag ceremony. Your 30-45 second video should include a brief introduction (your name and program) followed by an interesting fact about the nation you are representing.

Make sure to record in landscape format with your phone or camera oriented horizontally (not portrait mode, which is vertical). Use plenty of light and speak directly to the camera lens. Avoid recording in locations with dim lighting or background noise. You are encouraged to showcase the culture you are representing with attire or other props.

The Thunderbird Oath of Honor is a unique tradition that sets T-birds apart. Submit a video of yourself reciting the Oath of Honor in the following format:

As a Thunderbird and a global citizen, I promise: (in your native language)
I will strive to act with honesty and integrity, (in English)
I will respect the rights and dignity of all people,
I will strive to create sustainable prosperity worldwide,
I will oppose all forms of corruption and exploitation, and
I will take responsibility for my actions.
As I hold true to these principles, it is my hope that I may enjoy an honorable reputation and peace of conscience.
This pledge I make freely and upon my honor. (in your native language)

Make sure to record in landscape format with your phone or camera oriented horizontally (not portrait mode, which is vertical). Use plenty of light and speak directly to the camera lens.
