 As the spring semester begins here at Thunderbird, the search for summer internships or post-graduation employment is in full swing. If you haven't already done so, now is the time to update those resumes and showcase your skills! Here are a few tips for making the most impact:

  1. Use the top of your resume to highlight key skills : This makes it easy for hiring managers to see your best qualities right away.

  2. Research Both the Company and the Specific Program/Position: Tailor resumes by emphasizing relevant experience that matches the job’s requirements. 

  3. Proofread, Proofread, Proofread: Simple grammar mistakes can cause a hiring manager to question your attention to detail.

  4. Writing Style: Be sure to write clearly and concisely.

  5. Formatting: Ensure that formatting is consistent and professional. The average recruiter only spends seconds reviewing your resume, so be sure to include important information first.

  6. Keep Bullet Points Brief and Interesting: Use active verbs and key words that describes skills relevant to the job.

  7. Computer Skills and Activities: Include Microsoft Office only if you have advanced competency in the program. List other activities and honors you have received.

  8. PAR Statements: Restructure job tasks and responsibilities in such a way that demonstrates your accomplishments through quantifiable results. This adds credibility and demonstrates specific ways in which you excelled at your job duties.
