Apply for a Thunderbird Alumni Scholarship using the Scholarship Form in the application. On average, applicants receive up to $15K for the three (3) terms it takes to complete the Executive Master of Global Affairs and Management. The award is based on merit, financial need, GPA, GRE/GMAT scores (if applicable), and international experience.

• Competitive TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo scores (if you did not graduate from an English-speaking university in a native English-speaking country)

• Submission of the online application, including:
  • Resume documenting your professional and academic history
  • Admissions interview with one Thunderbird School of Global Management faculty member for shortlisted candidates
  • No GMAT/GRE required

Our Admissions team will consider both your professional and personal experience when assessing your fit for the program. On average, our students have fourteen years of professional experience before entering the program; however, each candidate’s global leadership potential—and his or her ability to bring global experience and cultural insight into the classroom—is of utmost importance to our Admissions team. We seek to fill our program with globally-minded students whose professional or personal experiences will add value to the diverse cultural and social Thunderbird experience.

The application process for international students is the same as for domestic students, with the exception of submitting proof of English proficiency (for students whose native language is not English). After admission, you will also be required to obtain a U.S. visa, which includes submitting a graduate financial guarantee. All international transcripts must be submitted in their original language accompanied by an official English translation. Translations must be literal, complete versions of the originals and must be translated by a university, government official, or official translation service. You may not complete your own translation. Photocopies and notarized transcripts are not acceptable.

Applicants are required to meet certain English proficiency standards for acceptance (You must have a Duolingo score of 125 or higher or admission to Thunderbird). If your English proficiency scores are below acceptance standards, you may be required to take pre-degree English instruction to ensure you meet the level of English proficiency needed to succeed in your graduate studies. The Executive Master of Arts in Global Affairs and Management (EMAGAM) program is designed for mid-career professionals in all sectors who are interested in the complexities of the global economy and the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The EMAGAM curriculum features a total of 30 credit hours, including 18 credit hours from core executive requirements and 12 credit hours of EMAGAM specialization course work.

Based in Washington, D.C., the program is tailored for mid-career professionals in all sectors. Most classes meet once a month on Friday and Saturday. The flexible schedule allows participants to continue working while earning their degrees. Students may choose to travel abroad by adding one of Thunderbird’s immersive week-long field seminars and/or Global Challenge Labs.

The program boasts a faculty comprising world-renowned professors and leading practitioners specializing in international trade, global diplomacy, and leadership. Notable faculty members include Professor Landry Signe, Senior Associate Dean Lena Booth, and Professor G.L.A. Harris, among others.

On average, students can anticipate spending about 10-12 hours per week outside of class on homework and various assignments.

In the executive programs, faculty recognize that scheduling conflicts may arise. Students are advised to communicate any anticipated absences with their faculty and program manager well in advance. Absences will be addressed individually based on the circumstances. Moreover, if students need to make a call during a class session, they should inform the faculty in advance to minimize disruptions to the classroom.

Residence halls are not available at this location.

To apply for scholarships, students must complete the Thunderbird Alumni Scholarship (TAS) application as part of the admissions process. The admissions committee evaluates a scholarship essay submitted with the application to determine eligibility for the highest possible scholarship award. On average, the TAS for this program amounts to $10,000.
