Transforming education in a time of uncertainty: Insights on Afghanistan

The Transforming Education Summit (TES) is an excellent starting point to reimagine how our educational systems can meet local needs within a shared global context. In our recent “State of Education in Afghanistan” conference, we discussed the challenges of national consultation in conflict, fragile, and emergency contexts and suggested how educational actors in Afghanistan and international policymakers could engage, mobilize, and facilitate a national dialogue on transforming education, along with accompanying strategies and delivery mechanisms.

NASA faces its biggest test in decades

The upcoming Artemis I moon launch is carrying the space agency’s ambitious goals for deep space exploration — as well as its hopes to stay ahead of the billionaires. “Congressional support could certainly erode if it doesn’t work,” added Greg Autry, a former NASA adviser and professor of space policy at the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.

ASU Online program in Mandarin produces 1st graduates

4 master's degrees offered to students in China through Cintana partnership

Arizona State University offers four online master’s degree programs taught in Mandarin to students in China, and the initiative has just produced its first group of graduates. Thirteen Sun Devils graduated with master's degrees in applied leadership and management in a virtual ceremony in July.

Investing in people: Today's refugees, tomorrow's Phoenicians

World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe, falling each year on June 20 and celebrating the strength and courage of those who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.

The day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and recognize refugees' resilience in rebuilding their lives.

Thunderbird dean on human rights at UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2022

Sanjeev Khagram, director general and dean of the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University, joined world leaders at the 2022 U.N. Global Compact Leaders Summit to better understand the role of business progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) outlined by the United Nations.

Under the theme “The World We Want,” this year’s sessions included topics regarding business practices through the lens of pressing issues.

ASU institute hosts Palestinian delegation visit from An-Najah National University

The Institute for Humanities Research at ASU hosted Palestinian faculty from An-Najah National University May 23–27.

The visit was facilitated by a $60,000 grant, “Entrepreneurship Education for the Humanities and Social Sciences," submitted by Jeffrey Cohen, dean of humanities at The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The grant is part of the Institute of International Education's Sustainable U.S.-Palestinian Higher Education Partnerships (SUPHEP) program.

ASU leaps to No. 2 globally for UN Sustainable Development Goals, retains top US spot

Arizona State University has been recognized as a global leader in sustainability efforts, coming in second in the world and first in the U.S. in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings released Wednesday.

The annual international publication of university rankings looks at impacts made addressing 17 specific goals aimed at achieving a better world by 2030, known as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Adopted by all 193 United Nations member states in 2015, these goals provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.
