University Archives chronicles more than 140 years of Sun Devil history

From photos to video and audio recordings, administrative records, manuscripts, yearbooks, club information, and faculty and staff bios, the Arizona State University Archives chronicle approximately 140 years of school history — and at 7,200 linear feet, cover roughly the length of 24 Frank Kush Fields.

“ASU’s University Archives encompasses the history of the school from the beginning, all the way back to the 1880s until now,” said Shannon Walker, university archivist with the Community-Driven Archives Initiative who currently manages both the University Archives and the archival collections at Thunderbird School of Global Management. “University Archives is vast, deep and immense. It’s also very rich and unique.

Thunderbird at ASU, AUK student appointed as Ukraine’s deputy minister of education and science

Nadiia Kuzmychova, a student in the Master of Leadership and Management (MLM) program at Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University and the American University Kyiv (AUK), has been appointed as the deputy minister of education and science of Ukraine. In her new role, Kuzmychova will oversee the strategic direction of school education within the ministry, focusing on transformative initiatives to enhance the country’s education system.

Bringing vitality to city centers

Universities, cities and the private sector can jointly tackle workforce development and downtown economic development for the benefit of communities and the people who live in them — all while meeting students’ desires to meaningfully engage in the world.

That was the message as ASU convened a robust conversation Monday at the ASU California Center Broadway, with the ASU-restored Herald Examiner Building serving as a fitting example of adaptive reuse of historic buildings in city centers.

ASU students explore role of AI in future of work and society in Japan

This summer, 12 undergraduate and graduate students from the College of Global Futures and the Thunderbird School of Global Management participated in the inaugural “Japan–U.S. Global Leadership Program in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” cohort in Japan. The program is an international joint educational initiative hosted by Hiroshima University in partnership with three U.S. institutions: ASU, the University of Texas at Austin and Purdue University.

China’s Ministry of Education honors ASU, Hainan University with excellence award

The international collaboration between Arizona State University and Hainan University (HNU) in southern China has some milestones to celebrate this year.

The Hainan University–Arizona State University International Tourism College (HAITC) received a prestigious award from the Chinese Ministry of Education as it honored its first cohort of master’s degree recipients in late May. In June, ASU and HNU also agreed to renew their joint administration of HAITC for a new five-year term.
