Xin “Dean” Ding '99 details education journey, giving back to Thunderbird, and advice for the next generation of T-birds
What led you to give back to Thunderbird?
Thunderbird’s generosity in granting me a scholarship back in 1998 is very much in line with the school’s normal support practices for students, but for me, that scholarship opened a brand new world of opportunities that would never have been possible without that support. It helped me to get a visa and finish my education in this great country. My education, in turn, has helped me a great deal in making solid business decisions ever since starting my own business in 2007. Now, I am in a better financial situation and it is high time that I give back to Thunderbird so our school can offer more opportunities to the younger generation.
Why do you feel it is important, as an alumnus, to philanthropically support Thunderbird?
As an alumnus, giving back helps Thunderbird continue offering more and more opportunities to younger generations who need more and more financial help. Alumni support also helps our School better itself, and the world as a whole by training new, responsible global managers.
What excites you the most about the future and the next generation of global leaders?
I hope the next generation of global leaders are able to come up with ideas that encourage greater innovation in technology that will make global life more convenient. For example, I hope one day a 13-hour international flight can be down to 3-5 hours!
What advice do you have for Thunderbird students as they embark on the next chapter of their lives?
Be kind! Be appreciative! Make your life meaningful!
