Orelia Villarreal Marker

Since May 2017, Orelia Villarreal Marker has been a valuable member of the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University (ASU), a renowned management school recognized as No. 1 in the world for international trade by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) International Trade Rankings for the second consecutive year (2023-24).

Orelia Villarreal Marker is the Senior Director of Data Management and Analytics. With a strong background in accreditations, data management, and analytics, she plays a key role in developing and monitoring measurements and metrics for data analysis to drive business decision-making, planning, and process improvement. She prepares comprehensive reports, analyzes and interprets statistics and data, and develops long-range plans. Additionally, she works with stakeholders to create and maintain dashboards, prepares insightful presentations for executive leadership, and conducts market research for strategies.

Furthermore, Orelia plays a pivotal role in accreditation processes, developing strategic plans, managing accreditation reporting, and ensuring compliance with standards. With her data collection and analysis expertise, she continuously strives for improvement, driving Thunderbird's success as a global leader in management education. She has been involved in strategic projects, including developing a Virtual Base Room (Library) according to AACSB International Standards and preparing the HLC documents of Thunderbird at ASU for HLC reaffirmation and AACSB International.

Before joining the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Villarreal Marker worked for 19 years at EGADE Business School, Tec de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. EGADE is the only multi-site school in the region that has the “triple crown” of international accreditations, recognized by the industry for the quality standards they certify: AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS. She held various positions throughout these years, including Accreditations and Rankings Senior Specialist Consultant; Business Intelligence, Accreditation, and Ranking Director; Marketing and Business Development; and Associate Program Director.

During her tenure as Business Intelligence, Accreditation, and Ranking Director, EGADE obtained the Triple Crown. As the former Accreditations and Ranking Senior Specialist Consultant, she was responsible for a range of key responsibilities. She oversaw the standardization, verification, and audit of processes within the strategic areas of the school on a national level. This involved ensuring consistency and efficiency across all campuses, including those in Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City, by establishing standardized procedures and guidelines.

Additionally, she organized and managed the international accreditation and reaccreditation processes, working closely with the accreditation team and prestigious organizations such as AACSB International, AMBA, EFMD Global-EQUIS, and SACSCOC, and adapting to their evolving standards. Furthermore, she assisted with national accreditation processes, including those by CONACyT, PIFOP, PNPC, CACECA, and CIEES. In terms of data analysis, she prepared and analyzed relevant information for international rankings, leveraging her expertise to optimize ranking performance. Data collection and management were also within her purview, as she handled web-based survey construction, database management, and integration of data from various sources. She actively contributed to strategic projects, supporting their successful implementation and alignment with the institution's goals.

Orelia Villarreal Marker has previous experience before Thunderbird and Tec de Monterrey with private companies; she worked at Grupo SCANDA-ASTER / Nortel Networks and Costco Wholesale.
