Parade of Flags

One of the most beloved moments of every Thunderbird convocation, the Parade of Flags was once again a highlight of the May 12 ceremony. Graduates proudly carried the flags of their home countries and shared a piece of their story with the room. A powerful reminder of what makes Thunderbird unlike any other institution in the world. Thank you to every flag bearer who participated.

Regalia Orders

From cap to gown, our graduates looked the part. Graduate students in black and undergraduates in maroon filled the stage at ASU Gammage for a night worth dressing up for.

Students can email [email protected] or text +1.480.219.3247 for questions regarding regalia. Please include your name, school you attend, order number (if applicable), contact information, and your question or concern.

Diplomas

If all university academic requirements are met, students will receive their diplomas in the mail six to eight weeks after the degree conferral date. Graduates will receive an email notification via their ASU email account when their diploma has been mailed. Diplomas are mailed to the student's diploma mailing address, which can be viewed and updated from My ASU. For more information, visit this website.

FAQs

Bring your robe, hood, cap, and (if needed) a clear bag for your belongings. Graduates should walk in with the gown over their arm. Faculty and staff volunteers will help you get your regalia on at Headquarters. See the ASU clear bag policy.

No, nothing that can obstruct views is permitted in ASU convocation or commencement venues. Flags and/or banners brought into the venue by graduates will be held by staff until after the ceremony. Students are not permitted to carry items across the stage.

Thunderbird calls graduate names by degree level (bachelor's, master's, doctoral) and not by program- so you’re welcome to sit beside any friends who are achieving the same degree level as yourself. If you want to sit beside someone, just make sure they are in front or behind when you arrive at the venue- you’ll be in two lines which will split when you process in.

Each row will have a few seats open on the end for flag bearers. You can sit close to your friends by selecting a row that is near them but we cannot guarantee you’ll be right next to them. Representing your country’s flag is a great honor and you can meet up with friends right after the ceremony.

Yes! Feel free to decorate your cap to reflect your personality or achievements. Please note, no vulgarity is permitted–you will be asked to remove your cap if it has slurs, hate speech, or other inappropriate language or symbols. Other than that, be creative!

Unfortunately, the venue will be closed right after the ceremony. Convocation day photos may be taken back at Thunderbird Global Headquarters or outside the venue (ASU Gammage) after convocation. Degree gonfalons (banners) will be on display in the Haas Digital Forum from Monday to Friday (week of convocation) and are a great photo backdrop.

No, you will be busy getting your diploma cover and being congratulated by the Dean. This is a quick process and by moving quickly across the stage you will allow the students behind you to also have their moment of honor.

No, university commencement and convocation ceremonies are special events for all involved. Please show respect for everyone who has come to share in the experience. This means providing an equitable experience for all and that we can not grant exceptions for guests.
