Dear Thunderbird Class of 2021,
It’s my pleasure to bring you an update with new details on our spring 2021 graduation activities. In line with the guidance provided by President Crow and ASU Leadership, the Thunderbird School of Global Management commencement ceremonies will be held virtually on May 3, and we will also host in-person post-graduation celebrations in accordance with current Covid-19 safety guidelines.
The virtual ceremony will premiere on May 3 as a video that includes our commencement speaker – Joaquin Duato, Vice-Chair of Johnson and Johnson, conferral of degrees, Thunderbird awards, and school traditions such as the Parade of Flags from Around the World and the Thunderbird Oath of Honor. You can find more information on university-wide graduation activities and resources at graduation.asu.edu.
Additionally, we will host small, in-person gatherings with our graduating students only, a small group of faculty and staff, and me to safely celebrate the class of 2021 in a comfortable outdoor setting. These celebratory gatherings will take place on Tuesday, May 4 , in the Arizona Center grotto area at 455 North 3rd Street, Phoenix, AZ, 85004.
To ensure that each in-person celebration meets ASU safety guidelines, attendance will be limited to graduates according to program, and you will need to register online for your event in advance. Each celebration will be capped to ensure that we are not exceeding capacity limits. Registration links will be sent out to graduates soon by your program manager, and we will bring you an update on the latest public health guidelines that will be in effect.
The times of each in-person event and the featured academic program(s) are outlined below.
We hope you will join us to celebrate in person with your classmates. Graduates will have the option of taking photos with me, as well as collecting their diploma cover and Thunderbird alumni lapel pin. Graduation robes are optional – I will be wearing mine – but we ask that you come dressed in weather-appropriate business attire if not in graduation robes.
Additionally, a Thunderbird team is working on adding audiovisual elements to our in-person celebrations on May 4 in the hopes that we can share these special moments with the families of our graduates via Zoom.
And please remember, safety permitting, we plan to welcome any graduate from May 2020, Dec 2020, or this May 2021 back for a full in-person graduation ceremony during our grand opening, global reunion and 75th anniversary celebration during the first week of November, 2021.
With Gratitude, Dr. Khagram
Due to the continued spread of the COVID-19 virus and the public health recommendations that come with it, Arizona State University will be celebrating with its graduates in the 2021 Spring commencement in a virtual, online ceremony. The format may be different, but our enthusiasm for celebration has never been more inspired and we encourage you to join us in honoring ASU graduate and undergraduate students on May 3. Planning is underway. For more details, please check back here for updates and additional information about online activities.
