Assist a T-bird in Need

Thunderbird School of Global Management students of concern process allows faculty, staff, peers, family members, and other community members the ability to make the Office of Student Success aware of specific student concerns. Once alerted about a potential student issue, the Office of Student Success will immediately identify the appropriate follow-up action plan based on the nature of the concern.

 This form is not meant to be used for immediate concerns or emergencies. If the student has:

  • Expressed the desire to harm oneself or others through verbal or physical threats, immediately contact Student Rights and Responsibilities at 480-965-6547 and Campus Police non-emergency number at 480-965-3456 if necessary. Please call 911 for an immediate response if necessary.
  • Engages in highly aggressive behaviors within the classroom (Zoom included) or office setting and resisting help, contact Student Rights and Responsibilities at 480-965-6547.
  • Claimed to witness, have experienced or committed a sexual assault, immediately contact Student Rights and Responsibilities at 480-965-6547 and Campus Police at 480-965-3456 if necessary.
  • Express emotional distress (with no imminent threat of harm), contact Counseling Services at 480-965-6146 to learn more about what you can do to assist the student.
  • Disclosed a disability, refer the student to the Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services.

To alert Thunderbird’s Student Success, please review the types of concerns this form addresses and fill out a Student of Concern Form below. You will be asked to identify your level of concern as well as a general area of concern.

For reporting purposes, we have separated areas of concern into five distinct yet broad categories. Please see the following for definitions for areas of concern.

  1.  Academic Student needs to develop further course-based or academic skills. Examples of concern are the area is lack of class attendance, missed assignments, or need for additional academic support.
  2.  Social/Personal - Student needs to develop personal connections with peers, staff, or faculty for a sense of belonging. Examples of a concern in this area are homesickness, isolation, or lack of engagement.
  3.  Emotional/Behavioral/Wellbeing - Student shows symptoms of depression, anxiety, or other emotional states that may inhibit their ability to succeed as a student or overall wellbeing. Examples of a concern in this area is a student acting disruptively in a classroom, disengaging from activities, or anxiety about their future.
  4.  Health/Illness/Injury Student experiences issues in areas of health, injury, or illness. Examples of a concern in this area is a sudden injury, lack of balance in school life-affecting health, or lack of sleep impacting their ability to be a successful student.
  5.  Financial - Student expresses concern over their ability to cover tuition or basic living costs in the immediate future. An example of a concern in this area is a student divulging that they have a significant account balance that prevents them from registering for a class or retaining to the institution.

We are here to support you, and your health and safety are of the utmost importance to us. COVID-19 Note: If you are significantly ill, or have been confirmed to have COVID-19, or are living with someone who has, there are a variety of resources to assist you. If able, please submit your information below. If you are unable to submit your own information, someone (friend, family member, faculty member, etc.) may submit information on your behalf. The team will reach out to you with additional resources as needed as well as inform the appropriate university offices to assist you with absence notifications, health services resources, and more.

Definitions - Level of Concern

  • Minimal Concern - Concerns in which there is minimal or low impact to a student’s life and wellbeing without consequences.
  • Moderate Concern - Concerns in which there is low to medium impact to a student’s life and wellbeing with uncertain consequences.
  • Significant Concern - Concerns in which there is medium to high impact to a student’s life and wellbeing with direct consequences.
  • Serious Concern - Concerns in which there is high and certain impact to a student’s life and wellbeing with severe consequences or harm.


Definitions - Areas of Concern


SPECIAL NOTE: If your concern is related to a COVID-19 specific concern, please still categorize your concern using the below criteria. This will allow us to provide students with the proper resources. If it is more than one concern, please select the most prominent concern, and describe your multiple concerns in the description below.

  • Financial/Food Insecurity - Student expresses concern over their ability to cover tuition or basic living costs in the immediate future. Use Level 4 - Serious Concern if a student has disclosed or you suspect is student is or could become homeless or cannot provide for their basic food needs.
  • COVID-19 Related - Student has a positive COVID-19 case, or has a COVID-19 particular concern based on an experience on an ASU campus.
